「當我們做完一雙鞋，剩餘的材料怎麼辦？」New Balance 設計師 Seth Maxwell 捫心自問，這解決方法有兩個，第一個是盡量不要產生廢材料，New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 則是選擇二次利用，有些類似先前的 New Balance Made in England ‘Surplus’ Pack、New Balance 990v5 都對剩材做進一步再製，不過觀察 New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 你會感受更直接將剩餘材料使用在鞋款的拼接設計，每個顏色、材質比例並不大塊，就像是在僅存的材料中找到適合的裁剪面積，另外也歸功於這一季的剩料有限，所以每一雙 New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 都是獨一無二的，甚至是每一支腳，至於編輯覺得買的時候不知道會收到什麼顏色這點蠻刺激。

New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 目前已經在國外 New Balance 官網及指定經銷商登場，定價 180 元美金，型號 MTRP3LA。

而設計方面，New Balance Test Run PRJ 3.0 有著與最近推出的 Hierro v5（Seth Maxwell 也有參與設計）的 Fresh Foam 中底設計，並且混亂紋路有著重新塑造氛圍，除了鞋面使用剩料之外，Vibram Ecostep 大底也採用超過 30% 回收材製成，整雙鞋不是利用剩料就是使用回收材料，對環保的心滿溢於鞋上，還有個人也蠻欣賞非傳統式鞋帶，讓原先混亂的視覺多了一分潔淨，賦予這項實驗作品不光有概念，更多的是能穿出去的設計感。

Test Run PRJ 3 – What do we do with all the leftover, surplus material when a production run is over? If not used, a factory will typically destroy any remaining material once it has completed production. This project focuses on finding a creative way to prevent the disposal of some of these materials by creating a limited edition product. – Due to the limited amount of surplus materials, we are only able to make these shoes in a small quantity. As a result, each pair will be completely unique, with no two pairs (or even two shoes) being the same. Along with the surplus materials in the upper, the sole also uses leftover FreshFoam X foam material in random colors, creating a marbled effect. The Vibram rubber outsole uses the brand’s ECOSTEP compound, which has a minimum of 30% reused material. Any other component on the shoe that we do not have in surplus has been made from 100% recycled content. – I cannot emphasize enough how proud I am to be a part of this project. The importance of finding more sustainable methods for manufacturing is a real concern, and I’m happy to be a part of a team that is dedicated to explore how we can create with a difference.
