What Does Black Orchid Smell Like? When you first spritz Black Orchid, you know from the get-go that this will be a dark, brooding scent that oozes luxury and sensuality in equal measures. There's a touch of citrus-green bergamot at the top, but the earthy, dark black truffle note sets the scene. The heart is powered by Tom Ford's black orchid fragrance note, which exudes luxury and exclusivity as it was made for this fragrance. This note is enhanced by the sensual, juicy velvet tone of black plum. The darkness and depth of the heart is sweetened when you reach the base as a stunning noir gourmand steals the pineapple's brightness and pairs it with the milky sweetness of coconut. You'll find one of Tom Ford's favourite fragrance notes here, too, patchouli, to add an earthy, dark woodiness. This is enhanced by a smoky, amber blend of incense, vetiver and vanilla. Why It's Escentual: First released in 2006, Black Orchid by Tom Ford is now an icon in perfumery. In fact, Tom Ford cracked it the first time; this was his first-ever fragrance, and it reigns supreme to this very day. What sets the Black Orchid perfume apart is that it features Tom Ford's exclusive black orchid note. When creating his first fragrance, he wanted a floral note that was elusive, desirable and luxurious. To him, a flower that captured all of this would be a black orchid. Unfortunately, no such flower existed, so Tom Ford cultivated his black orchid through a Californian nursery; this unique accord runs throughout the entire Black Orchid collection all these years later. Look out for the detail: you'll see the TF logo engraved on the top of the cap. You'll also see the fine line plisse detail on the lid and bottle, which is also imprinted on the outer box.
